I’m one of the funniest people I know.  True story.  I don’t say this to boast, nor because I’m literally funny like Jerry Seinfeld or Kevin Hart.  Instead, I conclude this because I crack myself up AND laugh AT myself quite often.  I’m basically a comedy of errors in that I frequently make small mistakes, BUT on my good days, instead of beating myself up for them, I laugh them off.  When we’re able to truthfully and honestly laugh at our errors don’t you find it freeing and fun?  It relieves you of the pressure to be perfect and just flat out makes life more fun.
Amy Poehler of Saturday Night Live fame puts it this way: “Laughing at yourself is a spiritual practice: one requiring presence, self-acceptance and total humility.  There’s power in looking silly and not caring that you do.”  Laughing at yourself is a physical way you embrace yourself EXACTLY as you are.  It’s a manifestation of recognizing you’re loved and accepted WITHOUT having to do ANYTHING right.  What is more, laughter is amazing medicine.  It frees stress, clears tension, and brings joy.  Finally, it lightens the load of life and need to perform, which paradoxically frees you to transform into the most amazing version of yourself.
With this in mind, today I invite you to practice laughing at yourself.  Live.  Love.  Laugh.
