I don’t remember ever believing in Santa Claus, so, after I had a daughter it didn’t occur to me to make him a part of her Christmas.  Yet, way back when she was still only four, we did Christmas morning with my sister, brother-in-law, and nephews.  Blessedly, they were all about the Claus magic, meaning when we put the kids to bed, the space beneath the trees was virtually empty.  We wrapped and put out most all of their presents, labelled as from Santa Claus, while they lay sleeping.  Overnight the room went from emptiness to chalk full of Christmas giving goodness.  When the kids woke up and hurried into the living room the result was nothing short of magic.  A world of joy, wonder, awe, and abundance had been constructed for them.  The sounds of their laughter and delight was music to our ears.  The smiles on their faces lit up the room.

I share this story with you, because I think the more we live, move, and love with a childlike bliss, the more magical life becomes.  “Adult” seriousness is important and has its place, but instead of being our only way of seeing and engaging the world, I think it belongs side-by-side with “childlike” wonder and awe.  On the topic, Albert Einstein said: “Logic will get you from A to B, imagination will take you everywhere.”

While imagination can be fictional, I think it also sees Truths our logical minds miss.  It recognizes the gift of each breath, it sees the magic in smiles, hears the music in laughter, spots the masterpieces in nature, marvels at the beauty of sunsets, celebrates the divine DNA in us all, and realizes Love is indeed all around us.  Each of us is, in truth, love at and to our cores.  So, today I invite each of us to practice seeing through the eyes of imagination, our kid vision, which recognizes Santa Claus’ laughter, delight, giving, kindness, and joy are our constant companions.
