20+ years ago when a dear friend of mine was getting married, as he and I stood in a side room right before the ceremony, tears began rolling down his face.  Confused, I asked him why he was crying.  “I’m just so happy,” he replied.  It was years before I really understood what he meant.  You see, the traumas of my childhood had led me to disconnect from my heart and, like Spock, live in my head; a land rich with rationality and logic, but scarce in emotions, tears, and life.

As fantastic as our thinking minds are, they’re not big enough to grasp or experience the richness, vivacity, expansiveness, complexity, and beauty of life in all its turbo-charged fullness … but our hearts are!

Sri Ravi Shankar says: “We came into this world gifted with innocence, but gradually, as we became more intelligent, we lost our innocence.  We were born with silence, and as we grew up, we lost the silence and were filled with words.  We lived in our hearts, and as time passed, we moved into our heads.  Now the reversal of this journey is enlightenment.  It is the journey from head back to the heart, from words back to silence; getting back to our innocence in spite of our intelligence.”

Heaven is IN your heart.  The more we drop from our heads to our hearts, the larger our Love, the clearer our connection with others, and the bigger our collective bliss becomes.

Today, I encourage us to practice shifting from being head-centric to heart-centered.  Move from words, spoken or thought, to sweet silence by guiding your breath and feeling your heart space.  When someone frustrates you, or worse, hold an image of him/her in your heart and surround her/him with Light.  Decide to let Love lead instead of logic, and I bet you’ll taste some paradise!
