I can’t wait until … things go back to normal, a vaccine comes, we can freely hug one another, our political and racial divides heal, I graduate, warmer weather comes, and the list goes on. What’s on your “can’t wait until” list? Mary Oliver said, “I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world.” As a person who lived many years longing more for what lay in the future than embracing “this” (the only thing that is ever real), I can honestly say living in a “can’t wait until” space is to merely visit life. It’s subtle suffering.

It’s the difference between living with a mindset of lack vs. one of fullness, a spirit of “no” vs. one of “YES!”, a disposition of expectation vs. embracing what is, and/or a heart of disappointment vs. gratitude. Spiritual teacher Yogi Bhajan said: “The ideal purpose of your life is that you are grateful—great and full—that you are alive, and you enjoy it.” To drink deeply of life’s awesomeness is to be great and full, which stem from gratitude. And this great attitude comes only from being immersed in “this”!

Being “great and full”, in my mind, is to be greatly connected, present, open, and mindful, which go hand-in-hand with being full of joy, sorrow, peace, pain, and love. As much as I’d rather avoid the sadness and hurt parts, they’re inseparable from gladness, calm, and lovingkindness. So, may we drink greatly from the well of life and be perfectly filled with all its flavors!

Love & Hugs,

Lang
